Applications Being Accepted For Raleigh Neighborhood College – So you want to know what it takes to run a city like Raleigh. Or you want to go behind the scenes at the City of Raleigh Police Department, try your hand at City planning, or climb into the cab of a City Fire Department engine. You can do these things and more by enrolling in the City’s Raleigh Neighborhood College (RNC), which starts its fall session on Sept. 10. Applications are now being accepted for RNC, which offers Raleigh residents the chance to learn first-hand about the inner workings of City government. he 12 free weekly RNC classes run through Dec. 3. The classes take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursdays at Peace College, 15 E. Peace St. A free dinner will be served each session at 5:30 p.m. The classes explain and demonstrate the City of Raleigh’s programs and departments for those who want to become more informed about and active in local government. Representatives of City departments will lead the interactive classes. Enrollment in RNC is limited to 25 participants. Sessions are held each spring and fall. Both of these movements grew in response to the modern, corporate-based food economy, and although they are interrelated and part of a larger alternative agrifoods movement, they are two distinct movements with separate forms of knowledge and practice. Nonini and Holland will discuss the modern food economy, the role of US-style neoliberal market rule in local politics, and the development of food action networks to advocate the moral logics of food drawn from distinct components of the alternative agrifoods movement. Nonini and Hollandwere recently awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation to investigate this topic in four communities in North Carolina.
