**THUR 9/24.  5:30pm.  Precicnt organizational meeting for Democrats in NC House District 40 – School Board District 7

In Regards to the OCT 6th School Board Elections – News and Observer Endorses School Board Candidates Rakestraw, Simon, Nixon  -  Excerpts taken from the Sunday (9/20) News and Observer, the full text is posted on the front page of http://www.wakedems.org/ -
…As a key priority, the Wake system wisely tries to prevent schools from becoming “high poverty.”  Four of the nine seats that make up the Wake County School Board are on the upcoming ballot, and three are being vacated by incumbents. That translates into an election that could lead to significant and damaging policy shifts.  Fortunately, the field boasts candidates who fully understand the benefits of a robust commitment to diversity in enrollments.  The Wake system’s core goal of balancing opportunities and resources while constantly looking to raise students’ overall performance is worth sustaining.  It has been a cornerstone of the county’s prosperity and the success thousands of students have enjoyed.

The Paper’s endorsement states a main reason Wake County has grown so fast has been the sterling reputation of its public schools..

All of us living in Wake County have a stake in this election, and I truly hope you will help our candidates succeed.  At a minimum, remind everyone you come in contact with of the election on OCT 6th and its importance, and ask that they also remind everyone they come in contact with.

The policies the Wake County School Board enacts will effect all of Wake County, so if you live in Wake County but are not in one of the four School Districts that has an election in less than 2 weeks, please try to find some time to help the candidates supported by the Wake County Democratic party, and endorsed by the News and Observer, who are committed to preserve current policies that prevent schools from becoming high poverty and promise a robust commitment to diversity in enrollments.

The Wake Dems are running phone banks at party Headquarters, see below, but you can also contact the campaigns directly:
Rita Rakestraw – http://www.ritaforboard.com/   – running in District 1
Karen Simon -  http://www.karendsimon.com/   -  running in District 7
